Denver Trip

We went to Denver for the Lego Kids’ Fest as both the kids LOVE Lego. It was also just nice to get out of town for the weekend!

Lego had a special on with the Embassy Suites Hotel, which was beautiful and right across from the Convention Center, where the event was to be held. We arrived in the afternoon and were greeted by a well-knit team of friendly, helpful valets and concierges.

The hotel is beautiful and has an interesting and picturesque layout. We all loved the design and went exploring as soon as we were settled in our room.

Our room was very comfortable and Griffin bagged the pull-out couch bed in front of the TV and dining table. He was one happy kid!

Sage found the corridors suitable for dancing. The indoor waterfalls were lovely, too.

We  spent the rest of the afternoon at Denver Aquarium, as we had not been there for years and we had really enjoyed it the last time we were there. We enjoyed it just as much, if not more so, this time now that the kids were older!

I couldn’t resist having my photo taken with the local shark… While Sage decided to stick her head in a prehistoric shark’s mouth!

The exhibits and the decor are beautiful, fun, and informative. The residents have their own personalities though the Tigers there looked very bored and waited in hopes that some tourist would drop in for dinner…

Bruce is having pizza for dinner tonight since fish are friends, not food (see Finding Nemo).

Even the prehistoric models were waving at us as we left to go find somewhere for dinner. The restaurant at the Aquarium has a good reputation and I have friends that recommend it, but we wanted to go out and explore the town a little. Denver is a beautiful city and has a great Riverwalk and Arts/ Gallery area as well as a happening night life. OK, so the nightlife for us was an exploratory walk and dinner, but was still a lot of fun.

We spied a lot of interesting restaurants, and ended up at Ted’s Montana Grill as the kids love Buffalo Burgers when they can get them. The food and service were both excellent that evening, and we stuffed ourselves thoroughly. I had the chopped salad, Anton had the grilled salmon, and the kids had…buffalo burgers! The clam chowder we had to start was delicious, and they make their own lemonade. No chemical stuff here!

After dinner, we walked up the historic Larimer Street and discovered more interesting restaurants and bistros along with some lovely shop windows.

The next morning we showed up early at the Lego Fest after a disappointing breakfast at the hotel. The made-to-order omelettes were good, but the rest of the fare was below par. There are lots of other places to get breakfast nearby, however. There were a few people also waiting to get in…

The line moved quickly, and we were in within less than a minute of the show opening. Sage and I headed off to Ninjago Land, while Anton and Griffin stopped at Club Lego.

Four 1/2 hours each session, and we used every minute of it to the fullest! We did one session on Saturday, and one on Sunday. I think even the kids had their fill (mostly) by the time we left on Sunday afternoon.

At Cherry Creek Mall, we stopped to check out a mask exhibit that is a yearly fund-raiser for Denver Hospice. A good cause. We signed up to do masks ourselves for next year.

There were many beautiful masks!

Some wonderful art helping people in need. Great idea!
