About
Codename: Leslie Uhl
Me: Leslie Uhl
Photographer, blogger, traveler, and Mom. Not necessarily in that order!
I started out with a career in haircutting, not that you’d ever know it now…. I worked in London for Vidal Sassoon when bondage trousers were all the rage and mohawks were the new do on the block.
Back in Los Angeles, I graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a degree in photography. I worked in fashion and portrait for years until the kids came along and then let them be my full time job for awhile . However,I LOVE to take pictures! I have been the parental paparazza, annoying my children by documenting everything we do. They play along most of the time.
I also love to travel, and will jump at any chance I get to go somewhere…
I started this blog to document all the food that flows through this house…then realized, I have so many recipes I have been keeping all these years, now I have an excuse to make them, photograph them, and send them back out into the world. It gives me a reason to get out of my comfort zone and do something new and exciting…and invite friends over to share, as well. Now that I have my many new “virtual” friends that I have met via this blog, I have that many more people to share with. I love that!

Thanks. Very nice post. Your web site is very beautiful.
Hi Leslie:
I saw that you won the Best Photo over at Marx Foods so that is what brought me to your site. I was curious about your name because I worked for Gretl in the winters of 1978 and 1979 (I think). I thought I would look at your “about me” page and see if you were from Colorado. Lo and behold, I am guessing that your husband is perhaps Gretl and Sepp’s son?
She was a wonderful lady, I have so many memories. My interview with her was in the charming enclosed front porch? area of her Victorian home. She was so gracious, like no interview I had ever had, she hired me on the spot. Later I found out that a job at Gretl’s was highly coveted, only one or two openings a year. I wondered why she chose me?
She amazed and impressed me. Her attention to detail and especially her care and concern for the restaurant and the staff. I made the cold sandwiches (mostly tuna and egg salad). My station was in a sunny area in the corner of the building under the chair lift. I loved it. Once I put the hard boiled eggs into the refrigerator before they had cooled down sufficiently. She of course noticed, and well, I never did that again. I didn’t get in trouble, I was just sad and embarrassed that I disappointed her. I went on to work in the restaurant industry for 2 decades, Gretl was definitely one of my role models.
I look forward to following your blog and looking up Anton’s cooking show!

P.S. I also loved that the strudel recipe was top secret! My favorite was the cottage cheese version. My favorite lunch when I skied on my days off was her bratwurst & sauerkraut and a Heineken.
Dear Leslie,
I really enjoyed reading your food blog.
I just noticed your Wild Rice Salad and see that you love wild rice! It looks delicious! I was wondering if you might like to try our wild rice as it is 100% whole grain, gluten-free and Grade A. It’s just getting into stores in New York and can be a nice substitute for other rices. I can arrange for some to be sent to you free of charge if you are interested in trying out the Goose Valley brand. Please let me know where you would like it sent, and check out goosevalley.com for recipe ideas.
All the best,
Nicole
